PRIVATE BATH, Brookline, MA (Summer 2001). Interior decoration by Uniquely Lara. After-photo courtesy of Mike Rizza. The changes made to the bath are simple, but as dramatic as those made to the kitchen.
Manually scraping the paint from the wall tile revealed original subway tile, cream-colored with a beautiful, lustrous and crackled glaze. A fresh cornflower blue for the walls accents the white plumbing fixtures, the trimwork, and tile, thereby creating a cheerful ambiance. The maroon chosen for the tub exterior and accessories both complements the blue and picks up the mahogany of the door. The wallpaper border along the crown moulding reiterates the color unit. With its garlands of Nantucket roses, the border not only raises the perceived height of the room but also recalls both the locale and elegance of early twentieth-century Beaux Arts.
